Shoshone Chief - Fact 7 - The Paiutes: There were two distinct groups of the Paiute ( meaning pīt) tribe - the Southern Paiute and the Northern Paiute. The Northern Paiute were more warlike than their southern relatives. The Southern Paiute are often called the Diggers because they subsisted on root digging.
- Fact 8 - The Panamint were a small nomadic tribe of hunter gatherers who were closely related to the Shoshone. They lived between the Sierras and the Nevada state line around the Panamint Mountains.
